A Wet Alarm Valve Group (WAVG) is a critical component in automatic sprinkler systems used in fire protection. It is designed to protect and monitor the flow of water in a wet-pipe sprinkler system, where the pipes are filled with water under pressure and ready to discharge immediately in the event of a fire.
APC boasts it's unique design for UL&FM Wet Alarm Valve Group (SSBJ-300FF SSBJ-300GG)
The UL&FM Wet Alarm Valve Group typically consists of the following components:
Wet Alarm Valve (WAV):
- This valve is the heart of the system and controls the flow of water to the sprinkler system. It is typically installed in a dry, protected space and is activated when the water pressure in the system drops (indicating that one or more sprinklers have opened due to heat).
- Function: The valve remains closed under normal conditions, keeping the water supply isolated from the system. When a sprinkler activates, the pressure drop opens the valve, allowing water to flow into the system.
Pressure Switch:
- The pressure switch is connected to the system’s water supply and is designed to monitor the water pressure in the system.
- Function: When the valve opens, it causes a drop in pressure, triggering the pressure switch, which in turn activates the alarm. This alerts personnel or monitoring systems that the sprinkler system is in operation and water has begun to flow.
Water Flow Alarm:
- The water flow alarm detects water flow in the system and provides an audible or visual signal to indicate that the system has been activated.
- Function: It is usually connected to a bell, siren, or an alarm monitoring system to notify building occupants, emergency services, or central alarm stations that the sprinkler system is discharging water.
Test Valve:
- The test valve is used for periodic testing and maintenance of the wet alarm valve system.
- Function: It allows the system to be tested without opening the main valve, ensuring that the alarm functions correctly and the system is ready for use.
Check Valve:
- A check valve is often included in the system to prevent backflow of water into the system when the valve is closed.
- Function: It ensures that water flows in only one direction, preventing any reverse flow that could compromise the system.
Drain Valve:
- The drain valve allows water to be drained from the system for maintenance or repairs.
- Function: It is important for maintaining the system in a proper operational state and for any necessary flushing or clearing of debris from the system.
